Maya Wheeler

Executive Director & Founder

Maya founded WDC in 2023 with a vision of creating greater opportunity within the community. As Executive Director, she leads the organization’s programs, partnerships, fundraising, and strategic direction while building relationships with community organizations, schools, businesses, and funders. Her leadership continues to guide WDC as it grows its programs and expands the opportunities and resources available to the people it serves.

Daniel M.

Program Director

2024–Present

Daniel helps develop, coordinate, and strengthen WDC’s programs and initiatives. Drawing from his experience in entrepreneurship and business ownership, he brings a practical perspective to designing opportunities that respond to real-world community needs.

Elaine M.

Executive Assistant

2025–Present

Elaine provides essential administrative support across WDC’s day-to-day operations. She assists with scheduling, documentation, coordination, and other organizational needs that help the team stay organized and keep projects moving forward.

Rebecca C.

Social Media Coordinator

2025–Present

Rebecca manages WDC’s social media presence and helps share the organization’s programs, events, resources, and community impact online. She creates and coordinates content that keeps our community informed, engaged, and connected to WDC’s work.

Abdirashid H.

Outreach Coordinator

2023–Present

Abdirashid helps connect WDC with community members, partners, events, and resources. He supports outreach efforts that strengthen relationships, expand WDC’s reach, and connect people with opportunities and services.

Treasurer

2023–Present

Angela brings over 20 years of experience in accounting and financial management to WDC’s Board of Directors. She helps provide financial oversight and supports WDC’s commitment to responsible stewardship and long-term sustainability.

Chelese R.

Board Chair & Secretary

2023–Present

Chelese brings a strong commitment to community health and well-being to WDC’s Board of Directors. Her advocacy for breast cancer awareness and prevention informs her passion for connecting individuals and families with resources that support healthier, stronger communities.

Kymani C.

Youth Board Member

Student Member · 2024–Present

Kymani brings a youth perspective to WDC’s Board of Directors, helping ensure young people have a voice in the organization’s leadership and direction. As a student, Kymani contributes insight into the needs, interests, and experiences of the young people WDC serves.

John B.

Board Member

2026–Present

John Bailey is a longtime Denver community leader and Chair of the Colorado Black Round Table. With decades of experience in community advocacy, economic opportunity, youth development, and civic engagement, he brings deep knowledge of Colorado communities and valuable leadership experience to WDC’s Board of Directors.
